Thursday | 18:00 | WDAV Hour Frank Dominguez | Classical music often struggles with the perception that it’s elitist. Classical musicians, however, are generally NOT. During my life-long love affair with classical music, I’ve seen countless examples of classical musicians letting their hair down and performing popular music. Whether its orchestras such as the Boston Pops mixing light classics with orchestral arrangements of pop hits, or today’s artists showing off their classical chops, such as pianist Jon Batiste or rapper RZA, there is actually a great affinity between classical and other types of music. We’ll spend this hour sampling some examples of this, both from the past and from the current music scene. |
Thursday | 19:00 | College rock in the 70s, 80s, before and beyond | A show featuring music by innovative alternative rock artists, mostly from the 70s and 80s, featuring artists such as Jethro Tull, the Sex Pistols, R.E.M, and Sonic Youth. |
