WALT-A-THON!
WHEN:
November 13th, 7:00 am – November 14th, 7:00 pm
November 13th, 7:00 am – November 14th, 7:00 pm
WALT-a-thon is a 36-hour radio-a-thon to raise money for causes in our local and North Carolina community. Anyone who tunes in will hear from students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, townspeople, and other special guests. This year, the thon will benefit two organizations: Davidson Housing Coalition and WFAE.
WALT-a-thon exists because of our love for radio and our communities. It’s an ode to the art of broadcast, and to the life source of WALT: the listeners.
Which organizations are we fundraising for?
Davidson Housing Coalition
The Davidson Housing Coalition is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing and ensuring that all members of the community have access to safe, quality homes. Their efforts are increasingly important because the Red Line commuter rail coming to Davidson will provide improved transit access to Charlotte which will drive up property values and housing costs. As members of the community, we feel it is important to support the Davidson Housing Coalition's efforts to guarantee that those who work and contribute to Davidson can afford to live here.
WFAE
WFAE 90.7 is Charlotte's NPR station, reaching more than 200,000 listeners weekly. As federal support for public radio declines, WFAE is projected to be $1 million dollars under budget in the next fiscal year, putting the station and local journalism at risk. WALT 1610 feels that it is important to support WFAE so that Charlotte can retain a valuable independent news source.
